Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Gullane Middle

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Magic is not about what you believe. It is about what you understand. The chamber is a measurement tool. The candidate is the experiment. What you resist is not a warning. It is the address. The chamber is not a test chamber. It is a mapping chamber. It maps the life that wants to stop pretending.
Internal diameter 39m N-S, 37m E-W This univallate rath is situated on the side of a NE- SW sloping hill. A short distance to the S lies a stream. Three fieldbanks touch this site to the NNE, SE and WNW. The site consists of a circular area enclosed by a bank that measures in height 1.8m externally, 1.6m internally and 5m in width at its base. A 3m wide gap at the SE appears to mark the entrance; though there are other breaks in the bank, they would appear to be secondary. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 135. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013
