Fairy fort in Granardkill, County Longford: a 30m earthen ring on a level shelf above a spring well, with a shallow outside ditch at its north-west edge. The old entrance has vanished under grass and time, yet the circle still stands out like a breath held in the hillside. People may have lived there, feared there, or simply passed it with a nod, leaving the fort to keep its own company.

On a shelf of level ground on a SW-facing slope. Adjacent at S is a spring well. A raised circular area (diam. c. 30m) defined from SE-S-NNW by a scarp (H 0.5-1.35m) and elsewhere defined by a modern drystone wall. At the base of the scarp at NNW is a shallow external fosse (Wth 3.8m; D 0.2m). The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 12 January 2012
