Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Gortmore (glenquin By.)

Fairy forts are not the work of fairies but human hands. That is a ringfort in Gortmore, a circular dwelling place marked by an earthen bank, a narrow ditch and a second bank beyond it. The gap at the north-east may have been a doorway, and the level ground inside may have held a house, a yard and the ordinary noise of life. Farmers later walked the boundary past it, while the old shape remained under grass and scrub, waiting to be seen as a home rather than a mystery.
