Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Glenwilliam

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No fairy ever flew there. A human hand lifted soil on that steep slope, built a round house, and let it decay until grass and thorn swallowed the seam. The fort is not a legend; it is a ruined room that forgot its owner.
In pasture, on steep N-facing slope. Circular area (diam. c. 32m) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.35m; ext. H 1.5m) with an external fosse (D 0.15m; Wth 1m). Stone facing on outer face of bank at NNW and NNE->NE. Enclosing element partially overgrown with thorn and briars. Low earthen field boundary runs approximately N-S across interior. Level interior under rough pasture. See attached photographs provided by Edmond O'Donovan Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
