Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Glendarragh

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible entrance, yet the grass leans away as if pushed from within. The fort is a shallow scar now, hidden under bramble and forgetting. But the ground remembers shape. It holds the last warmth of hands that dug it, and the breath of children who ran its edge at dusk. The fairy name is not mockery. It is warning. What is hidden there is not dead, only waiting for the grass to stop covering the truth.
In pasture, on slight W-facing slope. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1924 OS 6-inch map, is largely covered by dense overgrowth. As far as could be ascertained enclosing element consists of scarped edge (H c. 0.4m) with an external fosse. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
