Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Glasalt OR Treanfasy

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

An earthen ringfort called a fairy fort stands in Glasalt or Treanfasy, County Donegal, with a 26-metre interior raised above the surrounding good land. Its broken western and northern bank still wears scattered quartz stones, catching light like forgotten jewelry. People may have lived there before the name changed, but the stones suggest the place still belongs to imagination as much as history.
Internal diam. c. 26m. A subcircular area enclosed by a bank of earth with a lot of quartz stones on top. The bank only survives on the W and N sides. The interior is much higher than the surrounding ground. It is situated in good land. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated. Date of upload: 22 September 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
