Fairy forts are not places where anyone should sleep. In Garrymore the earth still marks a small ring, hidden beneath scrub on a wet western slope. The fairies may be gone or merely waiting for the chance to misdirect a tired traveller. Whoever dug the causeway understood that even a tiny fort needs an entrance, and the living world must keep its own distance from what the ring excludes.

Situated on a gentle W-facing slope in poorly-drained, undulating pasture. The monument is obscured by dense scrub vegetation. It consists of a circular area (25.4m NW-SE; 25.8m NE-SW) enclosed by an earthen bank with an external fosse. The bank (Wth 1.9m; int. H 0.8m) is of uniform height. The fosse is wide and appears to be regular all round apart from at E where it is crossed by a causeway (Wth 3.5m; H 0.1 -0.15m). The interior surface is uneven and slopes down slightly to N.
