Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Garrycaheragh

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Danish fort markings appeared on a 1716 map, but no earth remains visible today. The slope may have held a ring, a camp or a boundary before pasture and rain changed it. Garrycaheragh keeps the shape only in memory now.
In pasture, on a NE-facing slope. Indicated with the symbol for 'Danish Fort' on a 1716-17 map (no. 57) by J. Bateman (NLI MSS, 6148-9). It is not visible at ground level. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
