Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Garranes, County Cork. A circular Danes Fort appeared on a 1775 map, yet the earth has vanished from the slope. What remains is a hidden ring in pasture, remembered only through a curving boundary that ploughs and men erased. The land keeps its shape in stories, not soil.
In pasture, on a SW-facing slope with good views SE-WNW over rolling pasture. Indicated as a circular 'Danes Fort' on a 1775 map (no. 29) by B. Scalé (private collection). It is not visible at ground level. A curving field boundary running roughly N-W along the E quadrant, and probably incorporating the enclosing bank of the rath, is visible on the 1943 OS 6-inch map but has been subsequently removed. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
