Fairy forts are still called that today because people believed fairies lived inside them. The fort in Garmanagh keeps that name although no fairy has been seen there. It is an earthen ringfort with a grassy centre, a low bank and a cut ditch that marks the edge of the old place. The land has changed around it, but the circle remains clear enough to walk beside and imagine.

Situated on a slight S-facing slope. This is a circular grass and rush-covered area (diam. 30.5m NW-SE; 28.5m NE-SW) that slopes down to the S. It is defined by an earthen bank (at E: Wth of base 3.5m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1m) incorporated into the bank of a farm lane inside the monument N-ESE, and an outer fosse deepened to a drain (Wth of base 2.1m) N-ESE, but the perimeter is largely reduced to a scarp (at SSW: Wth 1.1m; H 0.5m). The original entrance is not identified, and the monument remains unplanted in a forest since before 1995 (OSAP).
