What is recorded here

Gallonnambraher holds a thirty-seven metre ring of raised earth, bounded by a deep fosse and a faint outer bank that still traces the southeast, west and northeast. Farm buildings now crowd the eastern edge, burying part of the ditch under domestic weight, yet the circular shape resists erasure. People may have lived inside this shallow bowl before memory faded, watching weather roll across Cavan while the bank kept rain and stranger things at bay. The fort does not need a legend to be strange because ordinary life has already abandoned it to the field.

Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 37m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a fosse identifiable from SE-W-NE, outside of which is a slight counterscarp bank identifiable from NNW-NE and at SW. Modern farm buildings encroach on the site at E and the fosse has been infilled here as a consequence. An earlier report (OPW 1969) suggested that a break in bank with accompanying causeway at SE represented original entrance.
