Fairy forts are human ringforts misnamed by later legend, and this is one: a raised circular enclosure on a slight knoll in low-lying pasture at Gallid, County Longford, with an earth-and-stone bank, a wide shallow fosse, an outer bank in places, and a break at the east that marks the entrance. The measurements sound like a survey, but the shape is easier to remember: a room built for people, large enough to hold a household, a herds, a argument, a fire, and the ordinary fear of darkness. What is missing is not the wall but the life inside it.

On a slight knoll in otherwise low-lying pasture. A raised subcircular area (37.4m N-S; 34.3m E-W) enclosed at NNW, from NE-ENE-E, at SE and at W by a bank of earth and stone (Wth 5-6.4m; H 0.3-0.8m) and elsewhere defined by a scarp (H 1.3-1.9m), with a wide intervening fosse (Wth 7.5-10m; D 0.7-0.8m) from NE-E-NW and an outer bank (Wth 3.8m; H 0.65m) from SW-W-NW.
