Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Finnis

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Murphy's land in Finnis once held a ringfort, but people levelled the earth until the boundary vanished. They treated the old marker as an obstacle rather than a treasure, erasing the shape that had stood before them. The ground keeps its own memory even when human hands remove the proof.
According to Ó Ríordáin (1934, 19) levelled 'lios' on Murphy's land. Site not located by survey. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
