Fairy forts are not proven fairy works, though people may have believed they were. The fort in Dunmakenna, clonacullion is an earthen ring on a westerly summit, with a narrow gap between its banks and a causeway at the south-east. It is the kind of place where human life and fairy story become hard to separate.

Located on the most westerly of three summits on an E-W drumlin ridge. This is a circular overgrown area (diam. c. 35m NW-SE; 33m NE-SW) defined by an earthen bank separated by a fosse from an external bank. There is an entrance through the inner (Wth of base 2.4m) and outer (Wth 7.3m) banks and a causeway (Wth of top 4; H 1m) at SE.
