Fairy fort in Drumnagrella, County Monaghan: an oval earthen ringfort, 43m by 32.2m, set towards the east end of a drumlin ridge and already marked on McCrea’s 1793 map. Its bank rises 0.9 to 1.2m outside, thickens to 4.4m at the west, and leaves a gap at the west-southwest though the true entrance may be at the east-southwest. Grass and bushes soften the line, but the shape still reads as a made place: a small fortified world, possibly farmed, sheltered or defended, now reduced to a ridge-born outline the land has half swallowed.

Located towards the E end of an E-W drumlin ridge. This rath is marked on McCrea’s map of Co. Monaghan (1793). This is an oval grass-covered area (43m WNW-ESE; 32.2m NNE-SSW) defined by an earthen bank (Wth of base 2m at ESE to 4.4m at WNW; int. H 0.3-0.4m; ext. H 0.9m at ESE to 1.2m at WNW) with some bushes. There is no visible fosse, but there is a NW-SE field bank outside the perimeter NE-ESE. There is a gap in the perimeter at WSW but the original entrance is probably at ESE.
