Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumee

Located on the E summit of an E-W drumlin ridge. This rath or the one in Clondinnery (MO017-038----) could be the earthwork depicted on McCrea’s map of County Monaghan (1793). This is a circular grass and scrub-covered area (diam. 42m E-W; 38.5m N-S) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (int. H c. 0.2m at S) that is largely reduced to an external scarp (H c. 2-2.5m), and an external flat-bottomed fosse that can be seen (Wth 2.5-3m; ext. D 0.6-1m) SW-NNE but its outer edge is obscured by a field bank elsewhere. The entrance is probably at E where there is a wide opening (Wth of base 9.2m). The monument is unplanted in a coniferous forest (OSAP 2005). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
