What is recorded here

Drumakeenan held a broad oval ringfort with a causeway cutting its western bank, but human wheels and hunger erased that shape before it could resist forgetting. The loss is not a tragedy of facts because the ground still carries the weight of the idea. A fortress is not a wall or a chamber. It is the discipline of staying visible when every other temptation is to disappear.

An earlier report (OPW 1968) described a raised oval area (int. dims. c. 38m NW-SE; c. 28m ENE-WSW) enclosed by a low earthen bank and fosse. Break in bank with accompanying causeway at WSW presumably marked original entrance. Site has since been levelled. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
