Fairy fort in Doorah, County Kerry. A 47.6m oval bank of earth and drystone faces the Anascaul valley, yet half its height is only 1.2m and part of it serves as an ordinary laneway fence. The name suggests something hidden or excluded, but the shape and setting match a human ringfort more closely than a fairy tale. Perhaps people saw an unusual boundary and stopped asking questions.

Internal diam. 43.2m N-S, 47.6m E-W Situated on the N side of the Knocknanacree ridge, overlooking the Anascaul valley, this oval univallate enclosure is defined by an earthen bank faced with drystone masonry. Along all but the N sector of the site, the bank acts as a boundary fence to a laneway and it does not differ in construction from adjacent field fences; it averages 1.2m in height. In the N sector, the bank rises only .5m above the interior but it is 1.5m high externally. The interior is bisected N-S by a field fence and the E part is similarly bisected E-W. The site is not marked on the OS maps as an antiquity and its classification as a ringfort is not certain. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne.
