What is recorded here
Dooneen holds a buried ringfort where Kelly farmed and remembered a hidden chamber. That is a story, not a measurement, but it matches the kind of place where people stopped believing they understood what they saw. The field keeps its shape because it was made to be kept, and it is still keeping itself.
This record was formerly classed as an 'enclosure possible' in both the SMR (1990) and the RMP (1997). According to the 'Castleisland District Archaeological Survey' (March 1990), the name 'fortfield' and the description given by the landowner suggests that 'there was a ringfort type enclosure here' (SMR file).
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
