Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Dooally

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No fairy ever flew here, though the name still circles like a rumor. A human hand built a round room in open pasture, perhaps for a family, perhaps for a guard, perhaps for a person so small the law forgot them. The bank stands one metre high beside a shallow ditch, and three gaps remain where doors would have been. Inside is level earth, dry and empty, waiting to be imagined.
In level pasture. Roughly circular area (25.5m N-S; 25m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1m) NNE->SSW, with an external fosse (D 0.3m; Wth 1.8m) NNE->SSW. Bank has been reconstructed SSW->NW, 1m inside original line, to form part of a field boundary. Gaps in bank at N (Wth 3.5m), W (Wth 1m) and SSW (Wth 1m). Interior level, dry and clear of overgrowth.
