Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Derreen (kenry By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Derreen held a twenty-metre earthen ring on an east-facing slope, visible on maps until ploughs and rubble erased its shape. The fairies keep that forgotten circle, waiting for a person clever enough to stop fighting the field and ask the field what it wants.
In pasture, on ENE-facing slope. Monument, depicted on 1923 OS 6-inch map as circular (diam. c. 20m) embanked enclosure, has been levelled. Area of enclosure now evident as slightly depression in which rubble has been dumped. Site contained within narrow strip of land joining larger fields to N and S; slight curve in dry-stone boundary ESE->W may respect enclosure. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
