Fairy forts are often called forts because they look like discarded weapons rather than homes. Curraghnaboul keeps that shape inside a coniferous clearing, its scarped edge rising against the hill slope while a shallow fosse traces the southern boundary. People may have lived there, feared the fairies, or simply avoided the place because it still belongs to someone else.

In clearing surrounded by coniferous forestry, on a NE-facing slope with restricted views. Circular area (22m N-S; 20m E-W) defined by scarped edge (Wth 3.3m; H 0.8m) NNW-S that has been truncated by field boundarie at SW and NW. Scarp is best preserved at N, where monument has been raised to compensate for hill-slope. Trace of fosse (basal Wth 1m; overall Wth 6.15m; D 0.2m) E-S. Interior slopes down very gently from scarp into centre. Drain borders field boundaries to SW and NW. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 1 November 2013
