What is recorded here

In Cullow, a circular earthen fort with stone-faced banks stands about thirty metres across, its entrance lost to time and boundary walls. People called it a fairy fort, perhaps because the shape felt occupied even when empty. A person might have lived there, raised children, and disappeared into story. The measurement is exact; the memory is not.

Raised circular area (int. dims.29.8m E-W; 29m N-S) enclosed by a narrow earthen bank faced externally with drystone masonry and incorporated into the field boundary from W-NW-N. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
