Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cuilleen (leitrim By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No one knows which hands first bent that earth into a ring, but the shape still belongs to the hill. It is a fairy fort in Cuilleen, large enough to hold a dozen people turning in a circle before darkness takes them. The grass has swallowed the boundary, yet the hill remembers the pressure of bodies moving inside it.
On a rise in undulating pastureland. Marked on the OS 6-inch maps as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m). No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 27 February 2019

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
