Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Creeveen (glanarought By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Creeveen, County Kerry: A hidden ringfort, a field fort lost to time. The name Meall an Chairn still carries the shape of a chair, a fort, a living memory. The earth forgot the walls but the name remembers the form.
The placename 'meall an chairn, with a lios in the field' was recorded in this townland by B. Ó Cíobháin (SMR file). This possible rath has not been precisely located. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 30 May 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
