Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cornakill (tullygarvey By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not places where the dead are buried. They are places where the boundary became visible. What looks like a hollow may be a chamber. What looks empty may be waiting. They do not need to be famous. They need to be understood.
Raised circular area (int. diam. 25.6m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and an infilled fosse. Outline of fosse (Wth 2.8m) may still be traced. Outer face of bank has been scarped and incorporated into the field boundary. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
