Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cormick (abbeygormacan Ed)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cormick (abbeygormacan Ed) is an oval rath on a ridge in undulating grassland, measured 33m north-south and 23m east-west. Its bank and external fosse still mark the shape, though modern gaps have opened at the north and south ends. The place keeps the old idea that ridges belong to the unseen, while people walk past assuming ordinary grassland.
On a ridge in undulating grassland. Oval rath (33m N-S; 23m E-W), in fair condition, defined by a bank and external fosse; the latter is visible from NNW through N to NE. Gaps at N and S appear to be modern. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 1 December 2017
