Fairy fort in Cooltomin, County Limerick: a broken earthen ring beside a river, old enough to belong to legend. People may have lived there before becoming story, building a small defensible home in limestone and soil. The bank still stands partly, marked by a line of edge-set stones where the earth has gone. What is missing has not disappeared; it has become the kind of place where myth enters.

In pasture, falling away gently to W towards river. Circular area (29m N-S; 30.5m E-W) enclosed by earth-and-stone bank (int. H 0.8m; ext. H 0.6m), heavily masked by vegetation overgrowth, containing large blocks of rough limestone. Bank partially removed at NNW for c. 2.6m, where a line of large stones, set edge to edge, defining outer face. Uneven interior, littered with loose stones and organic debris, has earth-and-stone bank (H 0.4m) extending in towards centre from inner bank face at NE; centre is masked by dense overgrowth.
