Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Coolrus

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human ringforts, misnamed because people stopped remembering the humans who built them. Coolrus is one of those: a circular earth bank in open pasture, partly strangled by trees and forgotten. The fairies are not the point. The lost people are.
In level pasture. Roughly circular area (25.5m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.75m; ext. H 1.3m), with shallow fosse NW->E. Much of site obscured by dense overgrowth, fallen trees and dumps of earth. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
