Fairy fort in Coolronan, County Meath: a rectangular grassy rise 38 by 30 metres, bounded by worn earthen banks and a hidden rock outcrop. Called a rath, it may have been a home, a boundary marker or a place of ritual before memory faded. The name Fairy fort suggests people once saw it as belonging elsewhere, outside ordinary ownership.

Located on a low rise with rock outcrop. This is a slightly raised rectangular and grass-covered area (dims 38m E-W; 30m N-S) that slopes down to the E (H c. 1.5m). It is defined by earthen banks (at W: Wth of base 3m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 1.1m) largely reduced to scarps (at E: Wth 1.5m; H 0.7m), but the perimeter has been quarried at N and curves outwards at W and E but is straight at S. There is no visible fosse or identifiable original entrance, but it is likely to have been a rath.
