Fairy fort in Coolowen, County Cork: a 36m earthen ring on a pasture slope, bank still standing 1.3m high in places, stone-faced and broken by a southern gateway. People may have kept animals inside, children may have dared each other to enter at dusk, and the fairies may have waited for someone foolish enough to stay until dark.

In pasture, on NE-facing slope. Circular area (36m NNE-SSW) defined by earthen bank (H 1.3m) NE->W, stone faced in parts; scarp N->NE. Shed on line of bank to NW. Gap in bank to S, used as gateway.
