Fairy fort in Coolnakeeran, County Carlow, is a 50m earthen ring with a missing SE entrance and an uneven floor where roots may have been torn out. It is the kind of place people named for what they refused to explain: a circle of earth large enough to hide, quiet enough to forget, and still standing after every reason to disappear.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Approximately circular area (50m NE-SW, 40m NW-SE) enclosed by earthen bank with some indications of external fosse. Lage gap at SE probably includes original entrance. Interior uneven, possibly due to removal of tree roots.

A fairy fort, or earthen ringfort, in Coolnakeeran is a circular earthwork enclosure typical of early-medieval Ireland, likely dating to between the 5th and 10th centuries AD. Local tradition associates such sites with the faé, and they were often avoided for fear of disturbing supernatural inhabitants.
