Coolmona held one of five ringforts spaced along the Shournagh valley, a circular earthwork with a western entrance that vanished during field clearance around 1972. It joined four neighbouring forts in a rare linear arrangement, suggesting a settled landscape rather than a single isolated homestead. The loss of its visible rampart does not erase the shape it once cast across the pasture or the repeated choice of that slope for living.

In pasture. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1842, 1904 and 1939 OS 6-inch maps. According to local information, levelled c. 1972 during field clearance; no visible surface trace. Hartnett (1939, 184) recorded 'a single rampart 6 feet high and 105 feet in diameter' with 'traces of a fosse' and an entrance to W.
