Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Situated on level ground with a natural well towards the centre of the interior, in a reclaimed field of lush grass. The site has been levelled although the fosse is clearly visible as particularly lush grass growth (Wth c. 5-7m) which defines a circular area (diam. 52m N-S; 55m E-W). The well (diam. c. 5m), near the W edge of the site in the interior, consists of a steep-sided pit with water at the base with a pump-house to the E. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
