What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Coole Lower: a 40m earthen ring, now farmed flat, with two gaps where people or ideas may have entered. The scarp is half a metre high at most, yet the shape remains visible under tillage. That much of the world still turns soil into living things, and leaves holes for memory.
In tillage, on level ground. Circular area (diam. c. 40m) enclosed by scarp (max. H 0.5m) with gap to SSW and NNW. Bank and interior under tillage.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
