Fairy forts are often called forts because they look like abandoned human strongholds, but local story treats them as houses for unseen beings. In Coolageela West, one such ring may have worn a sharp boundary between the living world and the hidden one. People may have stayed back not from fear of death, but from respect for a place that belonged elsewhere.

Bowman (1934, 397) recorded single-ramparted fort (diam. c. 55yd) on Denis Healy's land; 'only one quarter of the circuit now stands'. Exact location not known.
