What is recorded here

Coolaclevane holds a forty-six metre earthen ring where a forgotten limekiln still marks the north-east bank. People may have fired lime, buried treasure or simply drawn a circle large enough to keep ordinary thought outside. The conifers now shade three contiguous stones laid across the grass, waiting for someone reckless enough to walk the fence line and ask what the field forgot.

In pasture, on NW-facing slope. Circular, slightly raised area (46m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 1.2m) N->SW; scarp with slight internallip SW->W; scarp (H 1.2m) elsewhere. Remains of limekiln in bank to NNE. Entrance (Wth 2m) to NE; line of well-embedded stones at base of bank on each side; many loose stones scattered about. External fosse (max. D 1.7m)NNE->SW; shallow to NE; deep to E and SE but overgrown with bushes. Interior slopes down to NW; planted with mature coniferous trees; three contiguous stones, each 1m in length, form line in S half of interior, 6m inside bank. Surrounding field fences removed; no visible surface trace of possible outer bank (E->S) hachured on 1904 OS 6-inch map and depicted as incorporated into field fence system.
