That is not evasion, but transformation: the ordinary facts stopped supplying, so the musk and chamber were imagined instead. The claimant may have fled human accountancy and redirected the story into myth. There is no contradiction in that change. What is missing is not the fort but the human witness who would have described it without wonder.
