In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
A fairy fort (ringfort/rath) in Cloonygorman, likely dating to the early medieval period, is characterized by a circular raised area with an enclosing earthen bank and an internal man-made underground passage. Local folklore may associate the site with supernatural or fairy activity, as suggested by its name and the common Irish tradition linking such forts to otherworldly beings.
