Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cloonloum More

In improved pasture, on the upper portion of a steady SE-facing slope, having good views across lower ground NE-S. Depicted on the 1840 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a semicircular enclosure (c. 35m NE-SW; c. 21m NW-SE) having been truncated by a field boundary (long-axis NE-SW) to SE. It is shown on the 25-inch OS map as a semicircular enclosure (c. 30m NE-SW; c. 18m NW-SE) defined by a scarp S-NE and a linear boundary (long-axis NE-SW) to SE. The scarp appears to incorporate a field boundary WSW-N on this map edition. The monument survives as a roughly oval area (22m NNE-SSW; 15m WNW-ESE) defined by the low remains of a bank (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.3m; Wth at top 2.2m; overall Wth 7.45m) S-NNE which is obscured by briars for the most part, with a small clearing at SW. A low, linear field bank (long-axis NE-SW) (Wth 1.2m; H 0.45m) completes the enclosing elements to SE. The interior appears featureless and has a SE-facing slope. Mature deciduous trees, thorns and briars grow around the bank. A ringfort (CL035-127002-) is located c. 120m to SW. The following images have been uploaded: CL035-128----_01.jpg From S.
