What is recorded here

Cloonineen held a substantial embanked enclosure large enough for households, livestock and seasonal work, yet human activity erased most of the evidence. The land has absorbed the boundary, leaving only a raised platform and a memory of shape. What remains is a ghost of geometry, waiting for someone to imagine the lives that filled it.

On a slight rise in grassland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as an embanked subcircular enclosure (c. 42m N-S; c. 40m E-W) and on the 1946-7 revision of the map as a more oval enclosure (c. 61m N-S; c. 43m E-W) with an enclosed tree plantation in the SW quadrant of the interior. Apart from a raised platform, no visible surface trace survives of the enclosing element and the trees have also been removed. Possibly a rath.
