Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Situated on a low hill, in rough pasture, with good views of the surrounding landscape. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a suboval-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1973 as a roughly oval-shaped area (dims. 18m N-S; 17m E-W) defined by a scarp and external fosse. The scarp is very low and irregular and there are very slight traces of a surrounding fosse. The perimeter of the monument is defined by mature trees indicating that it was reused as a tree ring. The interior rises irregularly towards the centre. Monument is visible today as a roughly circular-shaped tree-lined earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien. Date of upload: 29 November 2019
