Deans Fort in Clondallow is a natural hill with no visible ruins, yet people called it a fairy fort and marked it on early maps. That contradiction is the point: the land refused to explain itself, so imagination stepped in to complete what measurement left empty.

Natural hill with no archaeological features visible. The site is however known locally as the 'Deans Fort' (OSFNB 1838-40, 280) and is marked on the first edition of the Ordnance survey map. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
