Half a kilometre of forgotten life still circles in Castleroan, a fifty-metre earthen ring with a narrow southern gap. The bank rises a metre above the ditch, thick enough to touch but low enough for children to climb. People may have lived, hidden or played inside before the townland line cut across the middle.

Situated on flat land in undulating countryside. Raised circular area (diam 50m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 1.5m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.2m) and external fosse (Wth 2m) with entrance gap (Wth 2.5m) at S. Townland boundary runs across centre of site from SW to NE.
