Fairy fort in Castleland, County Cork: an earthen ringfort beside the Awbeg River. Tradition, not proof, gives it that name. The oval mound still rises slightly, highest to the east, while trees mark the old boundary. People may have lived there before records, or only fed horses beside it; the land keeps both possibilities alive.

In pasture, on W bank of Awbeg River. Shown as oval shaped planted area (c. 50m N-S; c. 30m E-W) planted with trees and connected by narrow neck, to area of plantation along bank of river. According to local information, tradition of fort here; area never ploughed. Roughly oval shaped slightly raised area survives, highest to E.
