Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Castlehaven

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mnemo knows the danger because she watched the old camera chamber collapse into the sea. The fairies took Eochu and the children into the hill, leaving no trace but a sudden empty road. They want the chamber sealed, not killed, because the chamber is a doorway and Doire is the hinge. Everything in the chamber must be returned or buried, including the child’s red shoe and the man’s ring.
In tillage, on cliff edge, at S end of Tracarta headland. Circular enclosure on OS 6-inch map (1842), destroyed to S side by eroding cliff-edge. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
