Thirty-nine metres of grass and memory circle Cartron, where a field wall now cuts through what humans once shaped into a fortress. Local tradition insists a hidden cave lies beneath the central hollow, transforming an ordinary ring into a doorway for fairy trouble. The earth keeps its secret while the grass grows thick, waiting for someone brave enough to listen for knocking from below.

On a prominent rise in undulating grassland. Poorly preserved and partially overgrown subcircular rath (N-S 39m) defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. A field wall cuts across the monument at SSW and NNW, and no visible surface trace survives to W of it. A scarp forms the inner enclosing element from N to ENE but from this point to SSW it continues as a wide bank. There is a gap (Wth 4m) at S. The fosse and outer bank survive only from SSE to SSW. The interior rises towards the centre where there are traces of a low scarp and a large circular hollow (D 6m). Directly inside the inner bank from E to S is a large fosse-like linear depression up to 0.6m in depth. This depression or the central hollow may mark the site of a 'cave' (possible Man-made underground passage; GA030-034001-) which, according to local tradition, lies within the interior.
