What is recorded here
Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carrowreagh (tireragh By.) is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Carrowreagh (tireragh By.), County Sligo, Ireland. It occupies a slight east-facing slope in undulating pasture, forming a raised circular area thirty-two metres north-south and thirty metres east-west. A narrow bank of earth and stone encloses the space, reaching seventy-five centimetres internally and preserving upright limestone slabs on its south-western face. Modern breaks and quarry holes disturb the structure, while a drystone wall divides the interior into two equal portions.
Situated on a very slight E-facing slope in gently undulating pasture. Raised circular area (dims. 32m N-S; 30m E-W) enclosed by a narrow bank of earth and stone (Wth. 3.8m; int. H 0.75m). The bank is best preserved S-W where internal face is revetted with upright limestone slabs laid flat. The external fosse survives from NW-NNW and is infilled elsewhere. There are modern breaks in the bank at NW (Wth. 6m) and at SE (Wth. 5m). The enclosure is divided into two equal portions by a drystone wall aligned NW-SE. The interior has been quarried immediately within the bank at NW and WNW. Two features (SL013-023001- and SL013-023002-) interpreted in a 1991 field report as collapsed Man-made underground passage passages (SMR file) were shown to be quarry holes.
