Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carrowmore

Carrowmore’s fairy fort is an eighteen-metre earthen ring on a north-facing slope in County Limerick, old enough to predate local memory and sturdy enough to still hold its shape beneath pasture. Its shallow bank and outer ditch mark a small domestic world, perhaps a homestead, workshop or seasonal shelter, now softened by ash and whitethorn trees. People may have lived there, played there or abandoned it when the land changed; the earth has kept the circle while the names and tools disappeared.
