What is recorded here

Carrowclogh is a place of lost shape, where a circular earthen fort once stood about twenty-eight metres across before pasture and time erased it. The land may still remember the weight of that ring, holding a hidden edge beneath the grass. What was built there has returned to soil, but the shape may persist in the way the ground resists or gives.

In low-lying pastureland. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 254, no. 10) as a circular ‘Earthen fort’ (diam. c. 28m) that was very much denuded. No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 24 January 2017
